The Sequel That Shouldn't Have Happened
Here's the problem with 賭聖２：街頭賭聖: it doesn't have 周星馳.
The first two films were built around his manic energy. His absence is felt in every scene. The film tries to replace him with 葛民輝 — a comedian who was popular at the time but lacked 周星馳's range.
It didn't work.
The film was directed by 王晶 and released in 1995. It follows 三叔 (吳孟達) as he searches for a new "賭聖" after 阿星 retires. He finds 阿葛 (葛民輝), a villager with supernatural powers, and brings him to Hong Kong to compete in a new tournament.
What Is It About?
The plot is a mix of comedy, action, and romance. 阿葛 is a simple villager who can make money appear. 三叔 brings him to Hong Kong to compete in the International Gambling King Tournament.
Along the way, they meet 緣份 (邱淑貞), a beautiful woman who is being hunted by 豪姬 (彭丹), a Thai gambling queen. 阿葛 falls for 緣份, and the film becomes a love story disguised as a gambling comedy.
Meanwhile, 雷泰 (林國斌) is planning to win the tournament by creating a "masked gambler" to distract his opponents. He recruits 阿葛 as the perfect candidate.
The film's climax is a mix of comedy, action, and romance — but it doesn't quite come together.
The Cast That Tried
葛民輝 as 阿葛 — the new "賭聖." He's funny, but he lacks 周星馳's depth.
邱淑貞 as 緣份 — the woman who captures 阿葛's heart. She's the best part of the film.
吳孟達 as 三叔 — the scheming uncle who can't stop getting into trouble.
彭丹 as 豪姬 — the Thai gambling queen. She's the villain, but she's also the most interesting character.
甄子丹 as 蒙面賭聖 — appears in a cameo as a gambling monk.

Why It Matters
賭聖２：街頭賭聖 is the weakest film in the series. It holds a 6.5 on Douban, but it's not as well-regarded as the first two films.
The film was released in 1995, at a time when the gambling comedy genre was losing steam. The absence of 周星馳 was a major blow. The film tried to replace him, but it couldn't.
It also marked the end of the original trilogy. After this film, the series went on hiatus for five years, returning with a soft reboot in 2000.
Final Thought
賭聖２：街頭賭聖 is a film that tried to do too much and achieved too little. It's not a bad film, but it's not a great one either.
