Fight Back to School 2 逃學威龍2 (1992): The Time Stephen Chow Got Demoted to Traffic Cop, Went Back to School for the Second Time, and Still Couldn't Escape 吳孟達

The Sequel That Almost Wasn't
When Fight Back to School became a phenomenon, a sequel was inevitable. But how do you follow a film that defined a genre? You go bigger. You go dumber. You add more 吳孟達.
Released in 1992, Fight Back to School 2 sees Stephen Chow's Chow Sing-sing reduced to a traffic cop after his heroic actions in the first film. Forced to investigate a new case — an international terrorist plot — he returns to St. Andrew's as a teacher. Yes, a teacher.
Things go wrong immediately. His partner this time is 吳孟達 as Tat, still bumbling, still scheming, and still trying to get him in trouble. And his love interest (Athena Chu) is his student — which creates its own set of problems.
What Is It About?
A gang of terrorists is planning to bomb a political summit in Hong Kong. Their leader, Mr. Big (Michael Chan), is hiding at St. Andrew's. Chow is sent to infiltrate the school again — this time as a teacher.
He's terrible at teaching. He gives a pop quiz on "how to be a cop" and fails everyone. His students think he's a lunatic. His boss thinks he's incompetent. And his girlfriend thinks he's cheating on her.
Meanwhile, a student named Yat-yin (Athena Chu) has fallen for him. She's his student. He's her teacher. It's inappropriate — but in 90s Hong Kong comedy, it's also hilarious.
The film's climax involves a shootout with terrorists, a bomb threat, and a final showdown that's as ridiculous as it is satisfying.
The Performance That Stands Out
Athena Chu, in one of her early roles, is the film's secret weapon. She's sweet, funny, and completely charming. Her chemistry with Stephen Chow is electric — even if the film's premise is, shall we say, questionable.
But the real star is still the duo of Chow and Tat. They bicker, they fight, they scheme — and they somehow save the day.
The film also features a younger, less-polished Stephen Chow. He's still finding his rhythm. He's not the "King of Comedy" yet. But he's close.
The Legacy
Fight Back to School 2 is not as beloved as the first film. It's too derivative, too rushed, too unfocused. But it's still funny. It's still Stephen Chow. It's still worth watching.
The film also marks an important moment: the transition from the old-school Cantonese comedy of the 80s to the "mo lei tau" style of the 90s. Stephen Chow is still finding his voice. But he's close.
Final Thought
Fight Back to School 2 is the sequel that tried to be bigger but ended up being smaller. It's not a classic, but it's a reminder of why Stephen Chow was the king.
